WHAT? The Hugh Kaul Beanstalk Forest is a treetop challenge course with 20 unique ropes course obstacles. The aerial elements include swaying bridges, tight ropes, a zip line, and much, much more! Guests explore on their own and choose their challenge, everything from climbing walls to swinging on ropes to balancing on bridges. Obstacles range from slightly challenging to extremely challenging. For a photo of each element in the Kaul Forest, take a look through our photo gallery.
WHERE? The Kaul Forest is located in the Adventure Area at Red Mountain Park. You enter the Kaul Forest at “The Can”, the location that has been used as the launching place for the Red Ore Zip Tour. The Park entrance is located at 2011 Frankfurt Drive, Birmingham, AL 35211 and the Adventure Area can be accessed by entering the Park and walking along the Eureka Mines Trail.
WHO? The construction was made possible through the generosity of the Hugh Kaul Foundation, a private foundation established in 1989 by Mr. Hugh Kaul, a native of Birmingham who committed his time and assets to many area nonprofits during his lifetime. The foundation supports arts and culture, education, environment, health, human services, and public/society benefit. Construction was done by Beanstalk Builders, LLC.
HOW? To participate, guests may book online or by calling the Red Mountain Park office at 205.202.6043. Participants must be at least 6 years old and weigh between 70 and 275 pounds. Persons below 4’8″ will need assistance in maneuvering through the Kaul Forest. There is a slight difference in the challenge level involved in participating in this activity in comparison to the Red Ore Zip Tour; participants should be prepared to use more upper body and core strength.
