BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — Just in time for Friday the 13th, Red Mountain Park is launching night-time zip-lining.

Starting Friday and continuing on Friday nights through the end of summer, the park’s Red Ore Zip Tour will be open after dark, with riders racing through the trees down the mountain slopes.

Reservations are required and space is limited. There will be two groups of six going each Friday, one leaving at 8 p.m., and another at 8:30 p.m. Budget about two hours for the experience. At $65 per person, the night tours are more expensive than the $50 daytime rides.

Katie Sullivan, Red Mountain Park’s public relations coordinator, said riders will meet at the Red Mountain Park offices at 277 Lyon Lane for the night tours and will be escorted from there to the course.

Lighting will be kept at a minimum. The guides will wear headlamps and the guests will sport red glow sticks. Riders wear harnesses and are double-clipped to the cable system.

See www.redmountainpark.org for more information or to make reservations.
